Mushroom shirts

Mushroom shirts printed from real photographs rather than clip art. These are by Justin Jackson, a nature photographer who shoots the mushrooms that come up in his own garden and on his own walks — so the fungus on the shirt actually existed, in that light, on that day.

We do not earn anything from these. They are here because they are genuinely relevant to people who read a mushroom-growing site, and because the photography is good.

Why photographic prints look different

Most mushroom apparel is illustration — a stylised cap and stem that could be any species. A photograph keeps the things that make a mushroom identifiable and strange: the texture of the cap, the way the gills catch light, the leaf litter it pushed through. It is the same reason a good field guide uses photographs alongside drawings.
